Learn the keys to successful homeownership by attending the Homebuyers Club offered by the Scott County Community Development Agency.

Whether you already have a signed purchase agreement or have just started the process, or if you are simply dreaming of becoming a homeowner in the next several years, this class is for you!

The Scott County CDA's Homebuyer's Club meets first-time homebuyer education requirements.

Classes are offered quarterly and are limited to ten households with priority given to residents of Scott County and those who wish to purchase in Scott County.

Some topics covered during the Homebuyers Club:

  • Understanding credit and reading your credit report
  • Goal setting
  • Identifying your "dream home"
  • Shopping for a realtor, loan officer, and home inspector
  • Types of loans available
  • Choosing the mortgage that is right for you
  • Predatory lending
  • Negotiating a sale
  • What to look for with your home inspector
  • Do-it-yourself home maintenance
  • And much, much more!

Homebuyers Club graduates may be eligible for a grant from the Scott County CDA for down payment assistance. However, there are no more grants available for 2011. More information on the 2012 down payment assistance grants will be available soon.
